Programme Options for International Students
All the Electec College educational programmes are open to international students over the age of 18 years who meet the College pre-entry requirements, are granted a student visa by the New Zealand Immigration Service and have current
medical and travel insurance. Good oral and written communication skills in English to specified IELTs levels are also an essential pre-entry requirement.
Electec College Directors and management reserve to themselves the discretion to consider enrolment applications from any international student. In considering any such application the Directors may also take into consideration any
circumstances relating to the applicant and any factors that could impact on the delivery of the academic programme and the general welfare and safety of other students and the College. The Directors may, after such consideration, grant or decline any application for
enrolment.
International students will be integrated into educational programmes with New Zealand students to experience our New Zealand culture. The College reserves the right to limit the number of international students on each
programme.
New Zealand Immigration Requirements
Full details of visa requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service
site.
Eligibility for Health Services
Most international students are not entitled to publicly-funded health services while in New Zealand. If you receive medical treatment during your visit, you may be liable for the full costs
of that treatment. Full details on entitlements to publicly-funded health services are available on the New Zealand Ministry of Health site.
Accident Insurance
The Accident Compensation Corporation provides accident insurance for all New Zealand citizens, residents and temporary visitors to New Zealand,but you may still be liable for all other
medical and related costs. Further information can be viewed on the New Zealand Accident Compensation Corporation site.
Medical and Travel Insurance
International students must have appropriate and current medical and travel insurance while staying in New Zealand. You must provide proof of travel and medical insurance before we will fully accept you into any programme. Start
of the insurance cover should commence from the time you leave home for the airport on your way to New Zealand and apply while in transit, while in New Zealand and for trips to other destinations and holidays back to your home country. The insurer
must provide you with cover 24 hour x 7 days per week.
The policy must provide cover for:

Loss of baggage and other personal effects (excess allowed)

Accident and injury.

Disruption to travel plans.

Cost of medical care in any 'stopover' countries.

Emergency evacuation/repatriation (unlimited cover preferable)

Accompanying relative cover

Medical benefits ranging from GP visits to hospitalisation (both public and private), optical cover and emergency dental cover

Personal effects (excess allowed)

Personal liability cover (excess allowed)
The policy may also cover:
Insurance policies must insure you for no less than NZ$1,000,000.00 and must not have excess except where stated. You should seek cover
from an insurance company that has a credit rating no lower than an A rating from Standard and Poors, or a B+ rating from an AM Best company.
Programme Pre-entry Requirements for International Students
Certificate in Applied Electronics Technology

International students must be over 18 years of age on entry to the programme.

You will need to be proficient in mathematics to a level equivalent to New Zealand sixth form level.

You will be required provide evidence of your secondary school performance in mathematics.

We strongly recommended that you have your colour vision and depth perception checked out with an optometrist as a precautionary measure.

If English is your second language you will be required to meet the following criteria:

Provide proof of IELTS 5 General Training (no lower than 5 in any sub-tests), or
-
Provide proof of recent success in secondary or tertiary studies with English as the medium of instruction, or
-
Provide proof of other recognised international English examinations
Computing Engineering Programmes

International students must be over 18 years of age on entry to the programme.

You must have an aptitude for computer work including good keyboard skills and conceptual and analytical skills to implement software solutions.

You must provide academic records or evidence of your previous computing experience, or provide written references regarding your potential in this field.

You must own a personal computer, or have access to one outside of class time.

If English is your second language you will be required to meet the following criteria:

Provide proof of IELTS 5.5 General Training (no lower than 5.5 in any sub-tests), or
-
Provide proof of recent success in secondary or tertiary studies with English as the medium of instruction, or
-
Provide proof of other recognised international English examinations
Enrolment Application Procedure
The enrolment procedure for international students is:

You must complete the Electec College enrolment application form enclosing your most recent school reports, or public examination results in the subjects relevant to your programme of study (i.e. English
and/or mathematics, and/or computer literacy) and proof of your English language competency as detailed above.

On receipt of this documentation and providing you meet the pre-entry requirements for your qualification programme, the College will send you a letter offering you a place on the programme, an
invoice for your programme fee and an Electec College Student Information Handbook that contains all our policies and procedures.
- Please present this letter of offer to your nearest New Zealand Immigration Service office, or Embassy and get an application form for a student visa. The Immigration Officer will explain what other documents you need for your visa
application. Usually a student visa must be obtained before you leave your own country.

The New Zealand Immigration Service will most likely require you to pay your programme fee in full before you apply for your Student Visa. We recommend that you pay your fee electronically and directly
into the Student Indemnity Trust Account administered by Neil France Ltd, an Independent Chartered Accountant. Please contact Neil France Ltd
for instructions for the account details to deposit your programme fee.

Please advise the Electec College Administration Manager, when you have deposited your programme fee
into the Student Indemnity Trust Account and also mail, or fax us a copy of your student visa and a copy of your travel and medical insurance certificate.

We will then confirm your enrolment at Electec College by e-mail and in writing and look forward to your arrival in New Zealand.
Student Fees Protection Policy
In the unlikely event of closure of Electec College due to insolvency, or de-registration, or withdrawal of New Zealand Qualifications Authority accreditation, all student fees are protected in the Student Indemnity Trust account
administered by Neil France Ltd, 575 Colombo Street, Christchurch. This fee protection system is a mandatory requirement by the NZQA for registration as a Private Tertiary Education Provider.
The terms and conditions of the system administered by Neil France Ltd. are:

Student qualification programme and course fees will be deposited into the Electec College Student Indemnity Trust Account, which is used exclusively for the protection of student fees.

The Electec College Student Indemnity Trust account is completely independent of all the college business transactions and is protected from access by any business creditors.

In the event of insolvency, or de-registration as a Private Tertiary Education Provider, or withdrawal of NZQA accreditation, students who have paid their fees in full will be refunded their tuition fees
pro-rata to their scheduled programme end date.

The amount of funds held in trust at any point in time will be managed by Neil France Ltd to ensure that there are sufficient funds to cover student refunds on a pro-rata basis.
The New Zealand Qualifications Authority has accepted the fee protection arrangement provided by Electec College of Technology. While all care has been taken in reviewing the arrangement made, to the extent allowable by law,
the NZQA accepts no liability whether in tort, equity, or otherwise.
Student Attendance Policy
Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes at the times and places detailed in the class timetables. The Electec College policy is:

The minimum student attendance required is 80%, measured over the duration of the entire programme.

Your tutors will record your attendance for each half of the day.If you cannot make classes due to sickness, or for any other genuine reason, we require
you to phone us as soon as possible after 8.30am and we will mark your attendance record as an 'explained absence'.

If you have more than a couple of days unexplained absence, the college staff will phone you to ascertain the reason for your absence and where possible, provide the appropriate support to
help resolve the problem so you can resume the course of study.

Electec College reserves the right to terminate a students enrolment after 10 consecutive days or more of unexplained absence, if the student fails top provide a genuine and acceptable reason for that period of absence. When a student
enrolment is terminated they will forfeit the balance of their course fee held in trust and the college is required to advise New Zealand Immigration of the situation.

In a case of prolonged absence due to factors beyond a students control, the student may apply to the college for 'leave of absence'. When leave is granted, a student may still be asked to meet the course assessment requirements
during the period of leave, or the student may be given permission to return to the programme at a later date, providing the extension of the study period is approved ny New Zealand Immigration.
Student Withdrawal and Refund Policy
International students are expected to comply with the College Student Withdrawal policy as follows:

Any student who pays a programme fee in advance and withdraws prior to the commencement date of their programme is entitled to receive a refund of any fees paid in respect of that programme, less an
administration fee of NZ$500, or 10%, whichever is the lesser.

All qualification programme fees received by Electec College will be deposited directly into an the Student Indemnity Trust account administered by Neil France Ltd and will be held in trust until
the end of the seventh working day after the start date of the programme. After such time a proportion of the fee may be released for credit to Electec College in accordance with the NZQA approved fee protection policy.

Any student who withdraws before the end of the seventh working day after the scheduled start date of their programme will receive a refund of any programme fees prepaid less NZ$500 or 10%, whichever is the
lesser.

Any student who withdraws after the end of the seventh working day from the start date of a programme will not be entitled to any refund of fees.

Any student who wishes to withdraw from a programme must provide written notification to the Managing Director of Electec College prior to withdrawal. Verbal notification is insufficient. The withdrawal
becomes effective from the date Electec College receives written notification from the student.

Electec College Directors and management reserve to themselves the discretion to consider applications for a refund, or remission of programme fees after seven working days from the commencement date of a programme. In considering any
such application the Directors may review any circumstances relating to the applicant as are available to them and any other factors they may consider relevant. The Directors may, after such consideration, grant or decline the application, or offer other such remedy, or
resolution they consider appropriate.
