ICT is an acronym that stands for Information Communication Technology. It's the terminology we apply to the industry that produces a huge range of electronics, computer software and telecommunications products and services. It's an exciting industry that provides great jobs, great money and the potential to travel the world with a curriculum vitae of skills and qualifications that are in demand. But if you don't want to trip the world fantastic, you will find just as many career opportunities right here in New Zealand. That's why we call ICT 'The Smart Future'.

How Big is the ICT Industry?

The ICT industry is massive world wide, it's huge in New Zealand and 'big time' here in Canterbury. We are regarded as New Zealand's high-tech hub. Canterbury ICT companies contribute $1.4 billion to the national economy each year and employ over 3,000 staff. This means that approximately 10 out of every 100 people in Canterbury are involved in the ICT industry.

What are the Career Prospects in ICT?

The demand for qualified ICT people will continue to increase over time. In Canterbury our industry sources predict a major increase in the number of employees required in the electronics and software sectors.
