Electrical / Electronic Service Technician

Electrical and Electronic Service Technicians are involved in the service and repair of consumer products such as household whiteware, televisions, VCRs, audio systems and computers. Electrical Service Technician-A (EST-A) limited registration is an essential prerequisite for his vocation. The technician usually gets his 'product specific' training on the job working alongside an experienced technician. Instruction on complex equipment is usually accomplished in training school short courses or at manufacturer seminars.

Items for servicing are usually brought to the technician although some service centres provide house calls for minor repairs. Service Technicians are often in direct contact with the customer so they must develop good interpersonal skills and a range of business and marketing skills if they venture into self-employment.
