Pursue your passion with a Diploma in Website Programming and Design. The internet is continuing to grow at an exponential rate with exciting opportunities throughout the world for web developers. In just one year you can learn how to design, build and implement complete websites from scratch! This Level 6 course is unique in New Zealand as it teaches both web programming and graphic design.  To gain entry to the course you must be a competent computer user, but do not need any prior web design experience.

Qualification Overview   

This is a 44-week, full time, open-entry programme that provides the essential foundation training in the field of www design and development.

The Diploma covers the wide range of skills you will need to confidently create websites. The web development course starts with an introduction to HTML and cascading style sheets, and follows through to using Javascript, server-side processing (ASP.NET) and building dynamic websites with back-end SQL databases.

The course is taught with a hands-on approach and culminates with the Final Project in which you will be linked with a real-life client and gain true experience by working with them right from conceptualisation through to going live with their brand new website. The entire course is focused on web development - both design and programming. The main subjects are:

  • Introduction to HTML
  • Cascading Style Sheets
  • WWW Protocols
  • Programming for the WWW
  • Scripting using Javascript
  • Server Side Processing using ASP.NET
  • Databases & SQL
  • Introduction to a Current Web Scripting Language
  • Commerce Application for WWW

  • Site Design & Layout
  • Graphic Design Skills for www
  • Project Administration
  • Group Project

Then you bring all your knowledge and skills together with a major industry related project conducted in a real environment.

Microsoft Certifications 

The Microsoft certifications that we deliver on this programme are:

  • Microsoft Technical Associate: Web Development Fundamentals (Exam 98-363)

Topics for this exam includes programming, web applications, working with data and services, troubleshooting and debugging web applications, working with client-side scripting and configuring and deploying web applications. More details are available on the Microsoft Technical Associate site...

 

Please note that this certification is available only on the Christchurch programme. It is not available in Hamilton.

Entry Requirements

  • Be a minimum age of 17 years old and have four years secondary education, or be aged over 20.
  • Be able to demonstrate strong computer skills and may be required to complete an aptitude test.
  • Have Year 11 or Form 5 Mathematics (or equivalent)
  • Have an interview.
  • Have an academic IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent (International students only). Applicants whose first language is not English will be interviewed to assess their level of English competency and may be required to complete a placement indicator test.
