Research & Development Technician

Often these vocations are one and the same and the terminology will differ according to the organisation you work for. Research & Development Technicians and Engineering Assistants work closely with Research Scientists and commercial Design Engineers. They work from drawings to select components, build and test the products or systems and report the results.

In the commercial sector R & D Technicians/Engineering Assistants are usually involved in the project from the development of the prototype through to the early manufacturing stage. These vocations require good verbal and written communication skills. Individuals with good interpersonal skills may be asked to provide technical support for sales and marketing personnel during the early stages of a new product launch. This vocation can involve local and overseas travel.
