Electrical and electronic manufacturing companies employ Production
Assemblers. The work usually involves the mounting of components onto printed circuit boards, soldering,
desoldering and the link up of product modules. The most important vocational requirements are usually
soldering skills to a specified industry standard, good work habits and the ability to work in a team
environment.
It is essential to have formal academic qualifications with a comprehensive
range of technical knowledge and skills to advance beyond production assembly level. But for those
with formal academic training, a transitional position at 'entry level'
in production assembly will often provide an opening into an industry with enormous
opportunities.
